Katie McKenzie, a 16-year old cowgirl from Martin, was crowned Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee 2009 at the 60th Anniversary Franklin PRCA Rodeo in May.
Katie is the daughter of Rick and Nancy McKenzie and has a brother, Nick. She is a sophomore and honor student at Westview High School. Katie is a member of Westview's three-time National Championship Cheerleading Squad.
Katie has been competing on horses successfully for quite sometime. She began showing in lead-line classes while working her way to the Tennessee Junior Rodeo Association. In the TJRA, Katie competed in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Goat Tying.
In 2005, Katie won the 4-H Western Regional Jr. High Point award, the West Tennessee Quarter Horse Association's All-Around 12 & Under Champion, and the Youth Reserve Reining Champion. Katie has won numerous Tennessee State NBHA & IBRA awards. She has qualified for the NBHA World Show in both the Youth and Open divisions. She has also competed in Barrel Racing in the AQHA Youth World Show and the All-American Quarter Horse Congress.
Katie won the UT-Martin Rodeo Queen title this past March.
Katie will attend several Tennessee Rodeos and community service events throughout her year as Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee 2009 as she represents the Franklin, TN PRCA Rodeo and the Franklin Noon Rotary Club.
